They’ve also debuted the first single, “A Drowning”, which is available for streaming or purchase.

How to Destroy Angels has a six track EP coming this summer and they’re planning to have an LP ready for early 2011.

The new album is composed of ten tracks that will explore a “more organic and analog” sound in comparison to Trentemøller’s previous work.

The single is available now alongside a radio edit and four remixes.

Goldfrapp recently unveiled the first music video accompanying their fifth album, Head First. “Rocket” gets a very vibrant and quite literal video interpretation. Look out for the little cameo by Will Gregory, the other half of the band opposite frontwoman Alison Goldfrapp.

Fever Ray is the solo project of Karin Dreijer Andersson (The Knife) and for my money, the debut album is the best 2009 has yet delivered and it’s only $5 to download off Amazon right now. I can’t recommend it enough.

We Fell to Earth is the new band formed by Richard File (previously of UNKLE) and Wendy Rae Fowler. Unfortunately, their music has yet to be released in the United States, though you can hear more than half their tracks between their official site and MySpace. It’s a shame how many great acts don’t get distribution in the U.S.

“Deaf” will be released as a single on November 16th in the UK.

Andreas Nilsson directs the video, which features all the spooky costumes and haunting sets that you’d expect from Fever Ray. You just gotta love the creepy, antique lamps, which are also major props for Fever Ray’s stage show. Here’s the video, as premiered by Vanity Fair.

The other cover song is also available for listening. That track is “Here Before”, originally by Vashti Bunyan, which you can hear below.

There’s still a couple months left in the year, but I’m pretty damned sure Fever Ray will remain my favorite album of 2009. It’s just that good.

Modest Mouse has released a new music video for “King Rat”. The video’s been anticipated for a while because Heath Ledger was directing it before his death. The end result is both an awesome song and a really great video that work quite well together. It begins with anthropomorphic whales on a fishing vessel looking for their next catch and then things get crazy through a couple tonal and tempo changes. The art’s fantastic too, with drawings by Daniel Auber, who also co-directed.

Sirens of the Sea: Remixed is also now out. Having just discovered it tonight, I’ve got it on order, but the samplings sound great.

Junior hits the United States on March 23rd.

The second music video has been released in support of Fever Ray’s self-titled debut. “When I Grow Up” is directed by Martin de Thurrah, who previously directed this awesome video to the equally amazing Röyksopp track “What Else is There?” which featured Karin Dreijer Andersson’s vocals. Fever Ray is her solo project while away from The Knife.

Martin de Thurrah described his inspiration as:

That initial idea was something about something coming out of water – something which was about to take form – a state turning into something new. And a double headed creature not deciding which where to turn. But the idea had to take a simpler form, to let the song grow by itself.  I remembered a photo I took in Croatia two years ago, a swimming pool with its shining blue color in a grey foggy autumn landscape.

Fever Ray (the solo effort of Karin Dreijer Andersson, one half of The Knife) is set to release its debut self-titled album on March 24th in the US (23rd in the UK and the 18th in Sweden). It also appears to be set for digital release this coming week. The first single, “If I Had a Heart”, was just released alongside a pretty spectacular video directed by Andreas Nilsson. Check it out. It’s beautiful and haunting.

Gobbledigook

First up, Sigur Rós unveiled a new track and corresponding video off their upcoming album. The track is called “Gobbledigook”. The video features no shortage of full frontal nudity amidst forests, streams and beaches. You can also download a free high quality MP3 of the track from their site.

Með Suð Í Eyrum Við Spilum Endalaust

Secondly, the new album itself. Titled Með Suð Í Eyrum Við Spilum Endalaust (or With a Buzz in Our Ears We Play Endlessly in English), their fifth studio album will street on June 23rd in the UK and the next day in North America. This marks the first time the band has recorded outside of Iceland, and features production work by Flood (who most recently co-produced Goldfrapp’s Seventh Tree). The band also recorded one song in English, another first. Preorders on the latest Sigur Rós begin June 2nd on their site, and for those that do so, a full stream of the album will be available beginning a week later.

Inspired by the unfettered feeling of the acoustic performances filmed during Heima, Sigur Rós decided to adopt a looser approach in the writing and creation of their brilliant fifth album. The material for the album was written, recorded and mixed entirely in 2008 and is being released just one month after completion. The album glows with the perfect imperfection of live takes, the sounds of fingers playing guitar strings, cracked notes, and a stark, upfront presence not found in previous Sigur Rós recordings, moving away from the reverb-induced guitar sounds of old to something altogether more fragile and affecting.
