Producer Says Eastern Promises 2 Will Happen

Producer Paul Webster told Deadline that a sequel to Eastern Promises is expected to shoot in the winter with director David Cronenberg, writer Steven Knight and star Viggo Mortensen returning. There’s been no indication what the story would involve but we’ve known for a while that Cronenberg and Knight had been planning a sequel. I can’t say I immediately feel the first film needs a follow-up, but if it’s coming from a creative place and the guys who birthed the first one, I’ll put my trust in them that they’ve found a worthwhile avenue for continuing Nikolai’s story. Deadline also says Focus Features is onboard again, so chances are good this will happen. In that case, it would be the fourth collaboration in a row between David Cronenberg and Viggo Mortensen after A History of Violence, Eastern Promises and the soon-to-shoot The Talking Cure. It’s hard not to be excited about anything this pair chooses to do. They’re certainly enjoying working with each other.
