Tim Robbins Joins the Cast of Green Lantern

Tim Robbins has joined the cast of Green Lantern, the live-action big screen adaptation of the DC Comics character. According to Heat Vision, he is playing Senator Hammond, the father of Dr. Hector Hammond (played by Peter Sarsgaard). Hector Hammond is the main villain in the story, after being infused with telepathic and telekinetic abilities.

Ryan Reynolds stars in the film as Hal Jordan, a test pilot who is chosen by a power ring to become the latest addition to the Green Lantern Corps, a sort of intergalactic police force. Blake Lively is playing Carol Ferris, Jordan’s love interest. Mark Strong is in talks to play Sinestro, Hal Jordan’s mentor and eventual arch-nemesis. Martin Campbell (Casino Royale, Edge of Darkness) is directing from a script by Greg Berlanti, Michael Green and Marc Guggenheim.

Green Lantern is set to being production in New Orleans come March. It will hit theaters on June 17th, 2011.
