Trailer: Cop Out

Apple’s posted the first trailer for the action comedy Cop Out, which marks Kevin Smith’s first time directing from a script he didn’t write. It still strikes me as odd that someone would hire Kevin Smith for only his directing abilities, but Hollywood is always surprising me in that way.

Two longtime NYPD partners on the trail of a stolen, rare, mint-condition baseball card find themselves up against a merciless, memorabilia-obsessed gangster. Jimmy (Bruce Willis) is the veteran detective whose missing collectible is his only hope to pay for his daughter’s upcoming wedding, and Paul (Tracy Morgan) is his “partner-against-crime” whose preoccupation with his wife’s alleged infidelity makes it hard for him to keep his eye on the ball.

The cast also includes Seann William Scott, Adam Brody, Kevin Pollak, Susie Essman, Jason Lee, Michelle Trachtenberg, Rashida Jones and Fred Armisen. The script is by Robb Cullen and Mark Cullen, who have worked on shows like Las Vegas and Heist.

Watch the trailer over at Apple.

Cop Out is due for release on February 26th, 2010.
