Breck Eisner Remaking Cronenberg’s The Brood

The Brood posterIn an update by the Los Angeles Times on the Creature from the Black Lagoon remake, it’s revealed that Breck Eisner has signed on to direct the remake of David Cronenberg’s 1979 horror flick The Brood. Breck Eisner previously directed Sahara, was attached to the aforementioned Creature remake before leaving it, and is wrapping up another remake of George A. Romero’s The Crazies. The new script is being written by Cory Goodman, of the upcoming Priest.

The Brood is about a woman with an extremely negative mental state who undergoes an experimental therapy called “psychoplasmics” which trains patients to fully embrace their emotions and allows them to physically manifest themselves. She begins to give birth to mutated children which she can telepathically control and sends them to retrieve her daughter from her husband. Horror ensues.

It’ll be interesting to see what happens to this one, since the original had some pretty gruesome moments and so much of the film involves psycho mutant ‘children’ chasing a little girl. I kind of wonder if only the concept will remain and the scenario and characters will be all new.
