There’s a report from Variety about Mel Gibson’s next directorial effort shaping up as a Viking film starring Leonardo DiCaprio. Nothing is revealed about the story but William Monahan (The Departed, Edge of Darkness) is writing the script. Assuming the project doesn’t encounter any problems, it’s targeted for a fall 2010 shoot.
There’s not much to say given the unavailability of information, but I think it’s a positive step that someone other than Gibson himself is writing the script. I wouldn’t consider that one of his strengths given his last two films, The Passion of the Christ and Apocalypto.
