Steven Spielberg has abandoned plans to remake the James Stewart-starrer Harvey after failing to find a desirable lead actor who agreed with his creative direction. It seems Tom Hanks wanted nothing to do with taking on a role Stewart previously had and Spielberg later had troubles syncing with Robert Downey Jr., according to Variety’s report. That leaves him once again without a directing job on the cards, though several older projects remain waiting in the wings. Like most fans, I’m hopeful that his next film is either the Civil War-era Abraham Lincoln biopic that would star Liam Neeson or the hard sci-fi film Interstellar written by Jonathan Nolan (The Prestige, The Dark Knight) that involved wormholes. Please?
Steven Spielberg also has The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn in post-production after directing the motion/performance capture back in the beginning of the year. That film won’t be released until December 23rd, 2011 in the US, and a month or two earlier for international markets.
