We’re still a couple weeks away from being able to buy Splitting the Atom, the four track Massive Attack EP, but all of the songs are readily available for listening now. “Psyche (Flash Treatment)” features the always amazing Martina Topley-Bird on vocals while “Bulletproof Love (Van Rivers and the Subliminal Kid Remix)” has Guy Garvey. Both of these are – obviously – remixes of tracks that will turn up on the still unnamed LP in February. Spin has the “Psyche” remix while Spinner has “Bulletproof Love”. Check them out along with their interviews with the group. The other two tracks are also still available: “Splitting the Atom” and “Pray for Rain”.
Other details about the forthcoming music have also emerged. The album is looking to be ten to twelve tracks and they’ve got at least six b-sides laying around. Fortunately for fans, Massive Attack plans to release around three b-sides, outtakes and/or remixes every month on their site for free in the run-up to the album release. So there’s going to be a whole lot of great new music from these guys over the next few months. I’m also really pleased to hear that Martina Topley-Bird sang on a second track too, which should be on the LP. She’s also paired up with them for their European tour as the opening act and will be featured during their set as well. If that pairing remains when/if the North American tour is announced and they hit Los Angeles, I’ll be willing to plunk down quite a lot of cash to see that.
Splitting the Atom is due for digital and vinyl release on October 6th for the US and the 5th for Europe.
