Mandy Moore and Zachary Levi to Voice Rapunzel

Rapunzel cast: Mandy Moore and Zachary Levi

The two lead voices for Disney’s Rapunzel have finally been settled with Mandy Moore and Zachary Levi (Chuck) getting the roles, according to Heat Vision. Moore will obviously be the princess, Rapunzel, who was kidnapped as an infant and imprisoned in a tower until she escapes as a teenager. She’ll find herself on the run with a dashing bandit, played by Levi, while her captor, an evil witch, pursues. At one point acclaimed animator Glen Keane was making his directorial debut, but was eventually replaced by Byron Howard (co-director of Bolt) and Nathan Greno (Bolt‘s head of story and director of the Super Rhino short). Keane remains the animation director. The image above is a conceptual piece with the film being CG-animated, albeit in a manner that delivers a painterly look. Like The Princess and the Frog, Rapunzel is also a musical, though this one will bring back Alan Menken (The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin) for those duties.

Snarky comment: If this were a DreamWorks Animation project, we’d have Megan Fox and Robert Pattinson voicing. *whew* Glad we dodged that bullet.

Rapunzel is scheduled for release during the 2010 holiday season.
