Tommy Lee Jones and Samuel L. Jackson are set to star in The Sunset Limited for HBO, an adaptation of a Cormac McCarthy (No Country for Old Men, The Road) play. McCarthy adapted his own script while Jones will direct and executive produce.
The play involves two nameless characters, referred to as Black and White in the text. Black (Samuel L. Jackson) saves White (Tommy Lee Jones) from throwing himself in front of a subway train, the Sunset Limited. This sets off a debate between the two about the value of life and the existence of a god. Black is an ex-convict and an evangelical Christian while White is an atheist and a professor.
Given the talent involved, I’m definitely on board with checking this out when it materializes. It should be nice to see Jackson do a serious, mature role for the first time in ages, too.
