Screenwriter Hired for Brave New World

Brave New World by Aldous HuxleyLeonardo DiCaprio and Ridley Scott’s companies have been developing a film adaptation of Brave New World, each with an eye to star and direct, respectively. Now the project has hired Farhad Safinia (Apocalypto) to write the screenplay. Neither Scott or DiCaprio have firm commitments to any projects after their current productions are done, so the timing could either work out perfectly or be complicated by one or both putting other movies into priority positions. As with the Alien prequel, Ridley Scott has a ton of projects in development that he could direct, so it’s anyone’s guess what comes next. It could be that Monopoly movie for all we know.

Brave New World is one of the few major pieces of dystopian literature I haven’t read, or rather, I read part of it in high school and hated it. Someday I should return to it, but it doesn’t change my view that the adaptation of The Forever War remains the most interesting possibility among Scott’s list of developing projects.
