Back at Comic Con ’08, Disney showed off a preliminary special effects test for a potential sequel to TRON. As we know, over the last year the film was not only greenlit but went into production. That footage hadn’t been released outside the convention, but here it is now.
TRON Legacy marks the directorial debut of Joseph Kosinski. Garrett Hedlund, Jeff Bridges, Bruce Boxleitner, Olivia Wilde and Beau Garrett star. That’s right, Bridges and Boxleitner return as their characters. The plot synopsis follows:
Sam Flynn (Hedlund), the tech-savvy 27-year-old son of Kevin Flynn (Bridges), looks into his father’s disappearance and finds himself pulled into the same world of fierce programs and gladiatorial games where his father has been living for 25 years. Along with Kevin’s loyal confidant (Wilde), father and son embark on a life-and-death journey across a visually-stunning cyber universe that has become far more advanced and exceedingly dangerous.
Word has also come down that TRON Legacy may be targeted as a November or December 2010 release.
