Ryan Reynolds has won the role of Hal Jordan in the upcoming live-action Green Lantern film. Martin Campbell (Casino Royale) is set to direct from a script by Greg Berlanti, Marc Guggenheim and Michael Green. Production is set to begin in January for a June 17, 2011 release. The plot follows Hal Jordan as he first becomes a Green Lantern and then moves into space for a grand adventure.
Reynolds isn’t a bad choice, at least among the few said to be among the close contenders (Bradley Cooper, Jared Leto, Justin Timberlake) especially if his sarcastic signature can be turned down some. It’s interesting that this will be his third comic book movie role, after being in Blade Trinity and X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Plus, Fox started developing a solo Deadpool feature for him earlier in the summer, so I’d be curious to see if he can still manage to do both.
All in all, I’m looking forward to this. Martin Campbell can do great things with the right support and it seems like Warner Bros and DC are giving this one the royal treatment.
