I’m not sure I really like the Starship Troopers-esque satirical marketing campaign for District 9 since I don’t think the actual film will operate on that level in any way, but oh well. Here’s a new video that shows the aliens off a bit more.
District 9 is the feature film debut of director Neill Blomkamp, which is also produced by Peter Jackson. It’s loosely based on an earlier short film by Blomkamp called Alive in Joburg. It revolves around the idea that alien refugees arrived in Johannesburg, South Africa. They’re far from trusted and segregated from the human population. The story will follow a man who is infected by the aliens and is thus ostracized from humanity and is forced to see the situation from the other side.
District 9 will be released on August 14th.
