Sony Pictures Classics has announced that it will begin the limited release of Michael Haneke’s The White Ribbon on December 25th. Written and directed by Haneke (The Piano Teacher, Funny Games, Caché), the black and white drama follows the malice and intrigue that pervades a small German village during 1913-1914. The White Ribbon won the Cannes Film Festival’s top prize, the Palme d’Or.
Michael Haneke is pretty much a genius committed to exploring the worst depths of humanity. No matter what you’re witnessing, it’s impossible to look away. I’m really excited for this one.
