IGN scored the red band English trailer for Thirst, the latest from Park Chan-wook (Oldboy, Sympathy for Lady Vengeance). In contrast to most red band trailers, this one doesn’t earn the distinction due to language but rather violence and gore.
Thirst follows a priest to Africa where he volunteers himself as a test subject for a cure to a deadly disease. The experiment fails, but turns the priest into a vampire. The film then explores his newfound carnal lusts as they clash with his faith. Song Kang-ho stars. The film didn’t exactly receive raves from its showing in Cannes, but it seemed to me that a lot of the dampened reviews were influenced by expectations that the film simply wasn’t trying to fulfill. I’ll just have to see for myself in a few weeks how it stacks up against his previous work.
Thirst will receive a domestic release on July 31st.
