Trailer: The Cove

The CoveNow this is the kind of documentary I can really get behind. A team of activists and documentarians led by Ric O’Barry performed a secret infiltration of a cove in Taaji, Wakayama, Japan leading to direct evidence of mass dolphin killings and consequent human health hazards. The film also covers the situation as it is exposed to the Japanese public. Do you love dolphins? Then you’ll hate what you see here. The film won the audience award at Sundance and has been lauded by critics everywhere and blasted by the Japanese government. The Cove was directed by Louie Psihoyos.

I’m sure Michael Moore’s upcoming untitled film will receive a thousand times more discussion than this, but it’s time for some real documentaries to receive attention and interest.

The Cove will open on July 31st. There’s also a free screening at the Los Angeles Film Festival on June 28th.
