Here’s the first trailer for Martin Scorsese’s new film, Shutter Island based on the novel by Dennis Lehane. The screenplay is by Laeta Kalogridis. Leonardo DiCaprio stars as a federal marshal brought to Shutter Island to find a dangerous escaped mental patient, but finds that there’s a whole lot more going on. Most notably, the film has an absolutely stacked supporting cast filled with Mark Ruffalo, Ben Kingsley, Michelle Williams, Patricia Clarkson, Max von Sydow, Emily Mortimer, Jackie Earle Haley, Elias Koteas, John Carroll Lynch and Ted Levine. That’s a mighty fine group of actors!
This one’s looking absolutely fantastic to me. I’m delighted to see that it’s less a period piece and more a genre picture, to which Scorsese should be able to bring some much needed magic. And unlike The Departed, I won’t be negatively comparing this film to another one.
Shutter Island is set for release on October 2nd.
