The Licensing International Expo 2009 was taking place last week with Disney talking to buyers about the films it has in the works over the next several years and Jim Hill heard from a few people that Monsters, Inc 2 was mentioned as being Pete Docter’s next film. He’s pretty good for Disney news of all sorts, so this is probably true although the buyers weren’t supposed to talk about what they heard. A few months ago a Pixar blog was receiving hits based off searches from Pixar’s headquarters looking for “Monsters Inc 2013″ so the popular idea is that the sequel would arrive then, although Jim Hill doesn’t report anything about a date being mentioned and 2013′s the earliest another film could be added to Pixar’s lineup anyway. Pete Docter, who’s just coming off Up, directed the original Monsters, Inc back in 2001.
Pixar’s schedule currently looks like this:
- Toy Story 3, directed by Lee Unkrich for June 18th, 2010.
- Cars 2, directed by Brad Lewis for June 24th, 2011.
- The Bear and the Bow, directed by Brenda Chapman for December 25th, 2011.
- Newt, directed by Gary Rydstrom for June 2012.
