Park Chan-wook’s Thirst given a release date

Thirst posterFocus Features is set to release Park Chan-wook’s Thirst on July 31st in the United States. Thirst follows a priest to Africa where he volunteers himself as a test subject for a cure to a deadly disease. The experiment fails, but turns the priest into a vampire. His newfound physical lusts clash with his faith.

The film stars stars frequent Park collaborator Song Kang-ho. Park Chan-wook previously directed the likes of JSA: Joint Security Area, Oldboy, and Sympathy for Lady Vengeance, all great films. Thirst was released in South Korea back in April and was screened at the Cannes Film Festival where it seemed to get slightly mixed reviews, although I got the distinct impression that had a lot to do with distorted expectations. I’m still seriously anticipating it.
