Chris Hemsworth, who was just seen in Star Trek as George Kirk, is the man selected to portray the Marvel universe’s Thor. Deadline Hollywood had the first word. I can’t say I was impressed with him in Star Trek, but I also decidedly disliked the entire film, so what do I know. Personally, I was kinda rooting for either Alexander Skarsgård or Kevin McKidd, depending on what age they wanted their Thor.
Kenneth Branagh is directing Thor which was recently pushed back to a May 20, 2011 release. Mark Protosevich is on script duties. I don’t think it’s been made clear what story Thor might be telling, and whether it takes place primarily before or after the character being sent to Earth. Supposedly an official announcement will be made about this casting choice and others shortly, so maybe that’ll tell us more about what’s in store for the film.
Hemsworth would also take the role on in The Avengers, the Marvel superhero team-up flick, set for May 4th, 2012.
