The Road is directed by John Hillcoat (The Proposition) and adapted from the Cormac McCarthy novel by Joe Penhall. The score is by Nick Cave and Warren Ellis. In short, it’s about a man and his son trying to survive in a post-apocalyptic world. The film stars Viggo Mortensen, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Charlize Theron, Guy Peace, Robert Duvall, Garret Dillahunt, Molly Parker and Michael K. Williams.
I haven’t read The Road, but from what I’ve heard about it and given that this is a Weinstein release, the trailer is deceptive in showing this as an action film and the amount of time some characters have in the trailer may not be indicative of their roles in the full film. With the notion that this trailer is designed to get people into theaters and not to necessarily faithfully represent the film, I’m pretty psyched. I know enough about the source material to be seriously interested. I’m not really sure why I haven’t read the novel yet, but I think I just have so much faith in John Hillcoat and everyone involved that I’ll let this be my introduction.
The Road is set to hit theaters on October 16th.
