Yet another featurette on an Disney film. This time we’ve got Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time which is getting hyped up over a year from its release date. This featurette is a wee bit painful to sit through with its press-release-disguised-as-an-interview style. I was waiting for Jerry Bruckheimer (the producer) to be asked what it’s like to be so awesome.
I think Bruckheimer may have a serious man-crush on Jake Gyllenhaal…
I guess the film follows the plot of the video game of the same name. In 6th century Persia, Jake Gyllenhaal plays a street urchin by the name of Dastan who is adopted by the king as his heir in order to stop his real sons from fighting for the throne. Then he teams up with a princess to stop an evil nobleman from using the Sands of Time, a time-controlling gift from the gods. Or something like that.
Anyway, the cast is backed up by Gemma Arterton, Ben Kingsley, Alfred Molina and Tobey Kebbell. Mike Newell (Four Weddings and a Funeral, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire) is directing. The script was written by Carlo Bernard, Doug Miro, Boaz Yakin and Prince of Persia creator Jordan Mechner.
Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time is currently set to hit theaters on May 28th, 2010.
