Fox announced today that Fringe has been picked up for a second season of 22 episodes. That’s a good thing because the show really came into its own after a few episodes and has been on a serious roll for the latter half of its debut season. It’s a bit like Dollhouse in that regard, except Dollhouse‘s chances at renewal are iffy at best. Plus, Fringe has really taken to heart some of the lessons learned from The X-Files and Lost about how to balance mythology with singularly interesting episodes.
Fringe currently has two more episodes to air, with the finale introducing the William Bell character on screen after being discussed since the pilot. Leonard Nimoy plays the character and also signed to play the role a couple times next season.
