That’s the first photo from the set of Iron Man 2, featuring Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark in his home lab. USA Today shares with us that the film takes place six months after the first, and will have a lot to do with Stark being an unmasked superhero. Gwyneth Paltrow returns, as does Clark Gregg as the S.H.I.E.L.D. agent and Sam Jackson as Nick Fury. Don Cheadle steps into the Rhodey role, while Mickey Rourke, Scarlett Johannson and Sam Rockwell join as Whiplash, Black Widow and Justin Hammer, respectively. Justin Theroux wrote the script. And of course, Jon Favreau is back in the director’s seat.
I also think it’s noteworthy that Genndy Tartakovsky (Samurai Jack, Star Wars: Clone Wars) did some storyboard work on this one. I’d love to eventually see those, maybe in some companion art book.
Iron Man 2 is scheduled for release on May 7th, 2010.
