BioShock film put on hold

BioShock

The film adaptation of BioShock has been put on hold by Universal due to a ballooning budget of some $160 million. Just a couple weeks ago director Gore Verbinski had informed Disney that he’d pass on the fourth Pirates of the Caribbean in order to focus on BioShock. Everyone involved seems confident they’ll be able to get the budget down, probably by filming overseas and taking advantage of other countries’ tax breaks. Universal made a similar move on Ridley Scott’s Robin Hood when its foreseen budget became too large. Universal also sank a lot of cash into securing the adaptation rights, so it’s less likely to get dropped altogether. Hopefully they can sort things out on this project too.
