Composers selected for HBO’s The Pacific

Blake Neely has revealed that he will be co-writing the score to HBO’s ten episode miniseries The Pacific alongside Hans Zimmer and Geoff Zanelli. I’ll miss Michael Kamen and the beautiful work he did on Band of Brothers, but he can’t very well compose from beyond the grave. Neely was a conductor on Band of Brothers, while Geoff Zanelli is a member of Hans Zimmer’s little cabal.  As I recall, there was a controversy and/or lawsuit that alleged Zimmer was taking credit for a lot of the work his group of proteges were doing, but I’m not sure what came of that. It makes me wonder if Zimmer’s just going to write the title track and the other guys will do the rest. Hopefully these three deliver a cohesive score between the division of labor.

Anyway, The Pacific is still generally targeted for a fall broadcast on HBO. It’s the follow-up to Band of Brothers tracking a different set of soldiers through the Pacific campaign.
