The Girlfriend Experience
Hulu has debuted the trailer for Steven Soderbergh’s next film, The Girlfriend Experience. It’s his second cheap and quick film with primarily non-actors that he’s doing with Mark Cuban’s companies. The first was Bubble. If I recall correctly, the plan was for Soderbergh to eventually make six films in this mode.
Anyway, The Girlfriend Experience stars Sasha Grey (yes, the porn star) as a very high class escort/call girl and Chris Santos as her boyfriend. The film follows her as she juggles the needs of her clients, the overall profession and her personal relationship. Brian Koppelman and David Levien wrote the screenplay.
I can safely say that I’m a huge fan of Steven Soderbergh’s work, and in particular the times when he tackles issues of sex and intimacy (as in Sex, Lies, and Videotape and Full Frontal) so I’m really looking forward to checking this one out. Oh, and the poster has one of the best taglines in ages: See it with someone you ****.
The Girlfriend Experience is set to be released for video-on-demand services on April 30th before getting a limited theatrical release on May 22nd.
