It’s long overdue but still incredibly awesome and welcome. No more deleting Virtual Console or WiiWare games to clear room for new titles or save data. No more need to ever redownload games. No more manually copying games from SD cards back to the Wii in order to play them.
With the update to Wii Menu 4.0 you can launch games and channels straight from an SD or SDHC card. You can also download Virtual Console and WiiWare games right to those cards. Cards up to 32GB are now supposed as well. Save data needs to stay on the Wii itself, but otherwise virtually everything can be cleared off and stored on an SD/SDHC card. The games and channels that are stored on the card are accessed by a new SD button in the lower left of the menu which opens up a layout just like the Wii Menu, except with five times more spots for channels. User reports say that even large N64 games will load up from an SD card in 10-15 seconds.
Oh, and simultaneously with this update comes arcade games to the Virtual Console, starting with Star Force, Mappy, Gaplus, and The Tower of Druaga.
So no more having ‘clean the fridge’ in order to make room for new downloadable games. You can keep everything handy and easily accessible. Time to buy more games!
