Genndy Tartakovsky, the man behind Dexter’s Laboratory, Samurai Jack and the original Star Wars: Clone Wars series is coming back to Cartoon Network with a new series called Sym-Bionic Titan. The show follows three extraterrestrials who escape from their war-torn planet of Galaluna to crash on Earth, where they are swept up in high school and the fate of the planet. The characters seem to use giant mechs for battling other giant creatures. At least that’s what the images indicate, as the small plot summary doesn’t mention any of it.
I can safely say that I’m an absolutely huge fan of Tartakovsky and everything he touches, so I’m dying to get a better look at this. The man is a masterful visual storyteller. I remain in awe of some of the Samurai Jack episodes that got by without any dialogue and were every bit exciting, hilarious and/or suspenseful. This one is definitely staying on my radar.
The series was announced at Cartoon Network’s upfronts for the ’09-’10 season, but otherwise no specifics seem to have been announced regarding a premiere date.
Is The Power of the Dark Crystal still happening any way? Tartakovsky was attached to that for a while, but there have been conflicting reports about its status over the last year. I wonder if this is an indication he at least has departed from that project.
