Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea
Walt Disney Pictures has given Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea a U.S. release date of August 14th. The American title will also be shortened to simply Ponyo, although I think I’ll stick with the original. As with Disney’s previous distributions of Hayao Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli’s films, Los Angeles fans should expect the El Capitan theater to provide a subtitled version on certain nights. Other venues will have the celebtrity-stocked dubbed version featuring the likes of Noah Cyrus, Matt Damon, Tina Fey, Cloris Leachman, Betty White, Liam Neeson and Lily Tomlin. I’ll be looking out for those subbed screenings.
The film is about a runaway baby fish/mermaid wishing to become human who befriends a five year old boy.
