The Coen brothers
Joel and Ethan Coen have signed on to re-adapt the Charles Portis novel True Grit, according to Variety. The novel was previously turned into a John Wayne western of the same name in 1969, which yielded the actor an Oscar. The period story follows a 14-year old girl who teams with a United States Marshall and another lawman to find her father’s killer in Indian territory. The first adaptation focused on the Marshall while this one, as scripted by the Coens, will be from the girl’s perspective.
The Coen brothers have also completed A Serious Man, which is due for release on October 2nd.
