Ninja Assassin gets a release date

Rain in Ninja Assassin

Rain in Ninja Assassin

According to Variety, Warner Bros. has given Ninja Assassin a November 25th, 2009 bow. It’s about time that was given a date since it’s apparently completed.

James McTeigue directs and the Wachowski brothers produce while Rain (*insert Colbert’s exclaimation here*) stars as a, well, ninja assassin who turns away from the secretive clan that raised and trained him, and must face the consequences. It’s said to be filled with gory fights and has already been given an R rating, so no worries about cleansed violence. Sounds perfect for Thanksgiving. Naomie Harris and Rick Yune co-star.

I’ve seen a pre-release version of this…Oh god its terrible, poor story, poor acting, and so many technical details are wrong.

Warners have delayed it a few times, hoping that the new date wont have any major competition, so they can claw back some of the $120 mil.

I don’t think they are going to make it, and insiders are saying the same.

The choice of Rain, was now they realize bad, as the Japanese market dont really “go for him anymore”, the disrespect he has shown to them, has probably lost Warner the Japanese market.

And that’s a big market for them.

The story is very weak, and had to have a quick re-hash to try to “pump” it up. But even the re-writer just didn’t see it working, and got off the project promptly.

I expect lots of marketing (low brow) fake forum posts to try to push people to go to it.

But ever since speed racer bombed financially, Warners are very dubious about handing over the money again.

Luckily for them (the producers) they got the green-light on this well before SR showed very very poorly and was panned by the critics.

I doubt this will get any better treatment.

Expectations for this film are NOT high, and the sly use of not putting out other films to compete in the same time frame shows how desperate Warners are to get something back.

Many just don’t see it happening.
