That’s right, nine. If only it were six, then I’d have a great excuse to post the GIF of Ledger’s Joker mouthing “six” to his guard.
Anyway, Samuel L. Jackson has signed a deal giving Marvel the option to use him as Nick Fury for nine films after his debut in Iron Man’s brief post-credits sequence. It seems an appearance in Iron Man 2 is confirmed, while it’s likely he’ll show up in Marvel’s other upcoming films, like The First Avenger: Captain America and Thor. Of course, he’s a given for The Avengers and the trades are reporting that a S.H.I.E.L.D. film might be in the cards, too. What’s probably most important to fans is that this character’s casting is locked up, which has been a concern since the Jim Rhodes role was recast for Iron Man 2 and a variety of contract issues have cropped up, first with the slow signing of Jon Favreau through the current continued absence of a deal for Mickey Rourke. Marvel seems to be doing so much right in creating a cohesive universe across several films and making a ton of money while doing so, but they just don’t want to pay for the talent. Or so it seems.
