First up is this awesome little EP by Mustard Pimp called RER. You can grab the five track set for free over at Discobelle. It’s insanely addicting. I can’t for the life of me stop listening to “RER C (Versailles Rive Gauche Edit)”.

See the girl in the pink and yellow raincoat
Getting on the train in her pink and yellow raincoat
Rolling through Paris in her pink and yellow raincoat
RER C in her pink and yellow raincoat
I think she has a gun

So hot! And since it’s a common question, the tracks are named after Paris subway lines.

Flykkiller - Experiments in Violent Light

FlyKKiller - Experiments in Violent Light

FlyKKiller’s debut album, Experiments in Violent Light, is comprised of electronic goodness with something of a rock bend, or perhaps the other way around. Depends on the track. Suffice to say, it’s fantastic. It’s an ‘07 album so I’m late to the party but it makes the wait for more from them shorter. FlyKKiller’s currently finalizing a second album, I, Myself, Am War. I hope it arrives sooner rather than later. For a preview, here’s a live performance of a new track that seems to be currently going under the working title “Splinters”. Really catchy track, full of energy.

Fever Ray - Fever Ray

Fever Ray - Fever Ray

Meanwhile, I posted about Fever Ray’s self-titled debut just before it bowed and that’s been the other mainstay of my listening so far in 2009. This would be the solo project from Karin Dreijer Andersson (of The Knife). This tends towards darker, dreamy vibes, and like much of what I listen to, reliant on electronics. It’s perfectly suited for late night listening. You can find the video to the “If I Had a Heart” single here. I haven’t been able to figure out whether the album art is actually a Charles Burns piece or if it’s just an homage. I know she cites his work as an influence. I’m sure the physical release of the CD in March will reveal all.

What’s coming up? I know Röyksopp’s Junior is out in late March and then Depeche Mode returns with Sounds of the Universe a month later.
