Prequel for The Thing in development

The Thing

Universal is developing a prequel to The Thing, and by prequel I mean a direct prequel. The film will center on the Norwegian camp that discovered the alien craft in the Antarctic ice and proceeded to be wiped out. The creature, in the form of a wolf, was then chased to the American camp by the two final survivors, who died in the process. That’s where the John Carpenter classic began. Matthijs van Heijningen is directing while Ron Moore (Battlestar Galactica) is writing the screenplay.

As a huge fan of The Thing, I can’t fathom why I would want to see this story told. We already know that everyone at the Norwegian camp dies and they fail to kill the shapeshifting alien lifeform that they unearthed. What’s the point? Misguided prequels and origin stories are the bane of my existence.
