That’s right, eight years after Band of Brothers became one of the greatest things to grace television (excluding news), the follow-up set in World War II’s Pacific campaign is almost here. The following ad was shown on Australia’s Seven Network, hence the special focus on that country in the ad script. The miniseries is made up of ten hour-longs and is again produced by Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg. The Pacific is scheduled to air in late ’09.
Not to take away credit from any of the countless other amazingly talented folks that helped bring these stories to life, but any time Tom Hanks comes to HBO to produce a miniseries on a historical topic that he’s fascinated with, it comes out golden. From the Earth to the Moon, Band of Brothers, John Adams and presumably this, all fabulous. Okay, so HBO’s miniseries are pretty much always great, but these stand out. I cannot wait to see The Pacific.
