New Year’s resolutions

It’s a new year and since there are always way more films and TV shows that I’d like to see than I have time for, I thought I’d set myself a few goals for the year. Sort of a written impetus to finally fill some of the gaping holes in my viewing history, along with some other goals for the site.

  1. Write more criticism, or at least more reviews.
  2. Finally watch The Godfather and its follow-ups. I know, I know. I’m just never very motivated to check out mafia/mob stuff, even if it’s highly acclaimed.
  3. On the same note, I’d like to get around to watching The Sopranos this year. I went through the entirety of The X-Files between November ’07 and July ’08, and this would be a decidedly shorter time commitment.
  4. Get to some more Hitchcock, specifically Vertigo, Dial M for Murder, Strangers on a Train and Rope. Maybe give North by Northwest a second chance. That was my first Hitchcock and I was so disappointed with it I almost gave up on the director, but thankfully did not. Rear Window, Rebecca and Psycho are fantastic.
  5. I will finally watch the Krzysztof Kieślowski’s Three Colors trilogy that I’ve had sitting on my shelf for three years.
  6. Watch a few more classic westerns, notably Sergio Leone’s Dollars trilogy.
  7. I’ve seen a couple episodes of Battlestar Galactica but never managed to put in the time to catch up. With the final episodes airing now, I think it’s about time I started that series as I am, after all, a huge sucker for good science fiction. The current stuff will be on disc by the time I get to it, so it’s perfect.
  8. I’ll import David Cronenberg’s M. Butterfly to nearly complete my collection of his works. Still need to find a copy of the discontinued Shivers
  9. Write more criticism, or at least more reviews. This deserves a double commitment.

Let’s see how I do in one year’s time.
