Rudy Giuliani took a break from wooing the National Rifle Association to take a cell phone from someone far more important — his wife.
The Republican presidential hopeful was addressing the powerful gun lobby on Friday in Washington when his cell phone rang.
He answered the call, explaining that it probably was his wife.
It was.
“Hello, dear,” the former mayor said. “I’m talking to the members of the NRA right now. Would you like to say hello?”
She apparently declined, because he kept the call short.
“Talk to you later, dear. I love you,” Giuliani said, ending the call as the laughing audience applauded.
Am I too cynical in assuming this phone call was 100% planned? It’s not like the man’s been desperately trying to shore up his support within the conservative base, and that means making them forget his pesky affairs and divorces. Besides, who leaves their phone on when going on stage to give a speech?

And the audience laps it up, which probably says a lot more about the audience than the quality of this political charade.
Plus, his campaign gets the added bonus that this positive little anecdote gets him press while simultaneously receiving more attention than the content of his speech, which is relegated to the last four paragraphs of this article.
