Daniel Craig had some words for the UK’s Daily Express and the following was included:
Craig, 39, says of his forthcoming second outing as 007: “They [the producers] just want more gags. The next one’s going to be a lot funnier. Octopussy and Pussy Galore style gags. They’re all great names – but that’s the thing, the Bond jokes will be flipped on their heads.”
Please, please, please, please tell me he’s joking. He’s yanking the UK media’s chain again, right? Like when he talked of wanting his Bond to do a gay scene in the future?
If this isn’t a joke or some kind of horrible miscommunication, it’s the dumbest move in ages. We had 20 Bond films using those silly puns and gags. It’s been done, over and over again. Casino Royale was the new way forward and audiences and critics alike responded extremely positively. It’s not like it was completely lacking in comedy either, it was simply more character-based, and there should be nothing wrong with that. But “Pussy Galore style gags”… No, thank you.
Oy. If there are truly producers seeking to sabotage the Bond franchise – again! – then they seriously need to be removed from the project, or at least slapped upside their heads.
